D'addario EJ46 Hard Tension Summary
Why I like D'addario strings
Please see below description for EBAY PARTNER LINK
Over the years I have tried a few different makes of strings and different tensions. I have used Augustine, La Bella, and D'addario. I reached the conclusion that D'addario classical guitar strings are the best value for money.
- basses are well defined
- trebles are warm and rounded.
- produce a tone I am never disappointed with
- never have intonation issues with them
- quality is extremely consistent
- all 6 strings have plenty of length
- they virtually never break
- they have a good life
I have quite a few guitars and it is so much easier not to have to worry about what string I should put on what guitar. The only thing I have to decide is what tension to use.
Normal Tension:
Good for any guitarist who either needs a lower action or lower tension because they may have difficulty with bar chords at the higher tensions. They don't need to be driven as hard to get a good tone. A soft touch will make a good sound.
Hard Tension
Recommended for a player who likes to hit the strings harder and project more sound. Trebles give a fuller sound/tone at the expense of some reduction in sustain. This reduction in sustain can be a desirable attribute for many guitarists. It allows for greater control of the sound and greater separation between notes. Vibrato can be used more effectively.
Very Hard Tension
Recommended for the seasoned player with a strong left hand and likes to drive the guitar with the right. Quite a bit more difficult to play than normal tension but the rewards are obvious if driven efficiently. Substantially more volume and projection, much fatter tone in the trebles.
